TEXT OF SPEECH

Wassup, ladies and gentlemen. I’m Keola, a freshman just like all of you although my looks might say otherwise. Anyway, I love drawing and watching anime. I wanna be a comic book artist when I grow up. I’m also a little bit of a comedian, so if I start telling jokes as corny as a cornfield, bear with me. Whatever type of personality you have, come talk to me. I can deal with ANY personality.

My goals as a freshman at Foothill Tech is to get the leading act in the school plays, have my drawings posted around the school, and learn to be a programmer for animated movies. The teachers here at Foothill are the best! And I don’t say that because one is right in front of me. They are genuinely nice and easy to learn from. I wanna have an A-plus in ALL of my classes. That way my parents won’t have to nag on me all the time about my grades.

Keola's Goals For Freshman Year

My friends are the best. I may not have very many of them, but they stick with me through thick and thin. Shoutout to future college graduate Matthew Alarid, fellow writer Victoria Villa, and best friend since 4th grade Desirae Chaffin. I believe in the saying that says “I would rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.” It means that I would rather have a few good friends that I can depend on than a lot of friends that are worth nothing to me. I wanna enjoy time with my friends and family, like my Aunt Toya and her 4 kids. I won’t name them due to personal reasons.

Earlier, back in summer vacation, I tore my meniscus. If you don’t know what that is, you’ll learn this year, I’m sure. But because of it, I had to stop doing sports. Baseball and Jiu-jitsu are two of my favorite sports, so stopping them was SUPER hard. I never want to do that again. My goals for sports are to go back to jiu-jitsu and earn a black belt and make the high school team.

Well, these are my goals for my freshman year. It’s good to have goals at ANY point in time. Some advice for future freshman: Don’t think of high school as a place your parents just put you to get you out of the house, but think of it as an opportunity to earn a scholarship so you don’t have to bear the burden of paying for college. Make goals because if you don’t stand for anything, you’ll fall for everything. Peace out!
